"I propose live guided tours (walk and bike) and bicycle rentals. I'm located in Porto (Portugal)."Ask a question to João R.
The old Jewish community had a great relevance in Oporto. In several fields such as society, religion, and especially economics, from the late 15th Century became a marginalized and outcasted group by the Portuguese King D. Manuel I, who ordered their mandatory deportation or rapid conversion to New Christians, abandoning their religious principles in which they were educated. Three centuries later, Sebastião José de Carvalho e Melo, Marquis of Pombal, also decreed a second exhile of this community, which was intrinsically related to the education system in Portugal. In this tour, we will travel to ancient alleys and sidewalks where the Jews lived in Porto and established commercial activity. Visit the site of the old Jewish quarter of the city core and their burial grounds, in Garden of Virtudes.
Visit with a tour guide in the respective dialects: Portuguese, English and Spanish. Other dialects are available only with a previous booking. The tour includes a short break of 20m. If you would like to have lunch in a traditional restaurant, an additional cost will be charged. A liability insurance and personal accident insurance are included in the tours. This city tour isn't done by a jewish guide. Further and detailed-historical questions should be answered during the Synagogue's visit.
