"Si vous venez visiter le Québec, vous allez probablement aller à Québec, dans la vieille ville. C'est un coin magnifique, mais n'omettez pas de visiter les alentours ! Et pour cela, il n'y a rien de mieux qu'un guide local. Je saurai vous guider et vous con..."
Ask a question to Xavier C.Quebec City has a particularly important military and exciting history. Take Québec, it means controlling all the St Laurent Valley. Highly strategic town, the French, the English and Americans have done everything to keep it or conquer.
Did you know for example that Québec is the only one fortified city in the North America and there is no most important defensive network, either in the Canada or the USA?
This 4-hours visit is focused on 4 major attempts to take Quebec (successfully or not):
-1629 and the Kirke brothers,.
-1690 and the psychological battle between Frontenac and Phips
-1759 and the famous battle of the plains of Abraham
-1775 and the American revolutionaries.
We will not only talk about military history, we will also observe the imposing military heritage of the city:
-batteries on St Laurent,
-French fortifications and English developments,
-Citadel,
-Martello towers,
- and we'll also discuss the defensive system expanded to the South Shore, particularly for the first and second world wars.
In short, if you're interested in military history, this tour is for you. I'll discuss the major historical, but also of many tasty anecdotes and will specifically in detail the siege of 1759, which sealed the fate of the French in North America.
Route: we start in Lévis, to have a comprehensive overview of the site, we will then take the ferry (faster than an English frigate). Once arrived at Quebec, we depart from Petit Champlain to go to the Centre of the capital, or the plains of Abraham through the jumper of the mill and the famous wall.
You need good shoes. Fees are not included : ferry, funicular, observatory.
